WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
Many people claim that young people are no longer interested
in politics and that they do not care about the issues facing
Britain today. The truth is quite different - it's not that
young people have ignored politics, but that politicians have
ignored young people.
LDYS seeks to address this problem head on. We campaign on
issues which young people care passionately about: the problems
of student debt and tuition fees, human rights, the environment,
homelessness, racism, homophobia, and many others.
I support lots of campaigns already - why join a party?
Many young people (including many young Lib Dems) are already
members of charities and campaigning groups like Amnesty, Shelter,
Liberty or Oxfam.
Joining LDYS still allows you the chance to campaign on issues
that you care about - we're proud of our status as the most
independent, most democratic youth party in the country.
But with a political party you get more than just campaigns.
We give you:
- The chance to see your issues supported by politicians -
making your views really count
- A social network of young people to discuss the issues that
matter to you, share ideas, and have some fun while you're
at it
- A chance to meet top decision-makers including MPs and local
councillors
- The satisfaction of knowing that you're helping to elect
those politicians who share your views
If you join LDYS, you'll also get:
- Invitations to LDYS events, conferences and training sessions
- Access to a wide range of members' only discussion forums
- The opportunity to get involved in writing party policy
- Help and advice in NUS, student union and other elections
and much, much more!
How involved do I need to get?
The level of involvement is entirely up to you. Some of the
things you could do are:
- Vote Liberal Democrat and tell your friends why
- Support some (or all!) of our campaigns
- Join the Lib Dems (from only £3
per year)
- Set up a student branch if there isn't one in your university
(don't worry, we'll give you loads of support!)
- Get involved in a cross-London team (with recruitment, campaigns or social events, for example)
- Help out on the national LDYS team or one of its committees
Whatever you decide to do, if you get involved in any way you'll
be helping us fight for a greener, fairer, and more democratic Britain.
With your help, we can succeed where the other parties have failed.
